So much news i havenโ€™t reported - sorry, had exams this week and a few private issues within my other roles at other groups. Iโ€™ll try to be back soon.

Anyway, i thought id pop in and share a few things:

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Singapore will be hosting the 2029 SEA-Games, the 5th that Singapore will be hosting.

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ The son of a dictator has won the election in a landslide victory in Philippines, with protests claiming voting fraud.

Monkeypox - what is it?

Monkeypox is a rare infection. The virus is a member of the same family of viruses as smallpox.
Experts say the chances of infection are generally low, and mostly occur in remote parts of Central and West Africa.
Infections typically lasts 2-4 weeks, and causes flu-like symptoms and a rash.

Where is monkeypox right now?
As of May 24
Cases Tally:
๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Spain: 41
๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น Portugal: 23
๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ England: 20
๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Canada: 5
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Italy: 4
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ United States: 2
๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Denmark: 1
๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ Scotland: 1

Monkeypox has not been seen in Singapore since May 2019 - an imported case. MOH is following the situation closely.

How does the virus spread?

-
Any one of the following ways:
Contact with body fluids or sores of an infected person
- Through broken skin, respiratory tract, or through the eyes, nose, or mouth
- Contact with infected animals
- Through virus-contaminated items
- Direct contact during sex. It has not previously been associated with sexual contact.

Unlike Covid-19, monkeypox isn't considered contagious before people develop symptoms.

Experts say the risk is generally low.

Studies suggest the number of people who will hypothetically contract the disease from an infected person are generally low, but higher among people with multiple sexual partners, especially some men who have sex with men.

Vaccines against smallpox also provide immunity against monkeypox.

Even if there is a large monkeypox outbreak would likely be easier to handle than the current pandemic.
