So much news i haven’t reported - sorry, had exams this week and a few private issues within my other roles at other groups. I’ll try to be back soon.

Anyway, i thought id pop in and share a few things:

🇸🇬 Singapore will be hosting the 2029 SEA-Games, the 5th that Singapore will be hosting.

🇵🇭 The son of a dictator has won the election in a landslide victory in Philippines, with protests claiming voting fraud.

🎨 Fillipino artists also are facing discrimination after many commisions are being pulled out due to the current political situation.

🎥 ALSO: Uncovering 22 mysterious holes in the Sahara desert on Google Earth. One of my most well spent 30 minutes on a Vox video 😁!
Monkeypox - what is it?

Monkeypox is a rare infection. The virus is a member of the same family of viruses as smallpox.
Experts say the chances of infection are generally low, and mostly occur in remote parts of Central and West Africa.
Infections typically lasts 2-4 weeks, and causes flu-like symptoms and a rash.

Where is monkeypox right now?
As of May 24
Cases Tally:
🇪🇸 Spain: 41
🇵🇹 Portugal: 23
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England: 20
🇨🇦 Canada: 5
🇮🇹 Italy: 4
🇺🇸 United States: 2
🇩🇰 Denmark: 1
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland: 1

Monkeypox has not been seen in Singapore since May 2019 - an imported case. MOH is following the situation closely.

How does the virus spread?

-
Any one of the following ways:
Contact with body fluids or sores of an infected person
- Through broken skin, respiratory tract, or through the eyes, nose, or mouth
- Contact with infected animals
- Through virus-contaminated items
- Direct contact during sex. It has not previously been associated with sexual contact.

Unlike Covid-19, monkeypox isn't considered contagious before people develop symptoms.

Experts say the risk is generally low.

Studies suggest the number of people who will hypothetically contract the disease from an infected person are generally low, but higher among people with multiple sexual partners, especially some men who have sex with men.

Vaccines against smallpox also provide immunity against monkeypox.

Even if there is a large monkeypox outbreak would likely be easier to handle than the current pandemic.

Putin is weaponzing food. Here is what is happening.

Ukraine is the 5th largest wheat exporter, and the top sunflower oil exporter in the world, and its crops can feed 400 million people around the world.

Grain from last years harvest is being stolen by Russia according to satellite images.
This grain usually gets out of Ukraine via ports in the Black Sea. While this way is not currently feasible, some grain is getting out via land, but this is not enough.

Africa imports lots of food from Ukraine, and there are already food shortages in Africa.
The Head of African Union and Senegalese president had a meeting with Putin recently, to strike a deal with Putin on grain.
Putin needs allies in this war, and this is one way he is doing so.

Food is a critical item that every country needs - and the WTO have warned that a global food crisis is nearing, and the UN warns 1.6bn people around the world can face hunger.
