A 40~year old man has been arrested for attempted murder according to local media.

Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is currently addressing Japan on this matter.

Kyodo news agency and NHK said that Mr Abe appeared to be in a state of "cardiorespiratory arrest" when taken to hospital, after having initially been conscious and responsive, according to Reuters.

The term is often used used in Japan before a feared death can be officially confirmed by a coroner.

Police have arrested Yamagami Tetsuya for attempted murder.

Officials say the 41-year-old suspect worked for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force for three years until 2005.

Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency after its President - Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country due to the economic crisis.

The President boarded a military airplane from the main airport in Sri Lanka to the Maldives.

He previously said that he would be resigning today. As president, Rajapaksa enjoys immunity from arrest, and he is believed to have wanted to go abroad before stepping down to avoid the possibility of being detained.

The Prime Minister had earlier tried fleeing to Dubai, but failed after terminal staff refused.

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has arrived in Singapore after fleeing his country amid a deepening crisis. It is understood he has tendered his resignation.

He arrived on flight Saudi Flight 788 from Male, at around 7:10pm after issues securing a private jet.

Mr Rajapaksa was allowed entry into Singapore on a private visit. He has not asked for asylum and neither has he been granted this, says MFA.

PM Lee has delivered his National Day Message. He touched on geopolitics, inflation and COVID-19.

The government is “doing everything necessary” to help people cope with rising prices.

“The Government also stands ready to do more to help Singaporeans if things worsen,” Mr Lee said. “But the basic reality is that international economic conditions have shifted."
