Tomorrow, amidst a cost-of-living crisis and poverty in the UK, Charles III will be crowned Britain's 40th monarch since 1066. This is what some British people feel about the Coronation and the new King.

The event is expected to cost £250 million, but 61% of British people believe it shouldn't be paid for using public money. Additionally, only 32% of the country's young people aged 18-24 support the monarchy.
Today marks the 42nd anniversary of the death of Bobby Sands, a political prisoner and esteemed Volunteer of the Irish Republican Army (IRA), who bravely gave his life after a 66-day hunger strike in the infamous Maze of H-Block Prison.

Sands was a vital figure in the fight for Irish unity, whose death ignited widespread protests and demonstrations in Ireland and globally, drawing international attention to the conflict in Northern Ireland.

In 1981, he led a hunger strike to demand political status for Republican prisoners, galvanizing the protest by men in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh and women in Armagh Jail who sought political prisoner status. Sands was elected MP for the constituency of Fermanagh and South Tyrone as an Anti-H Block candidate while imprisoned.

Only days before this year's Victory Day, which celebrates the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, Polish authorities have torn down a monument to the Red Army.

The demolition of the Soviet monument is only the most recent example of the destruction of communist-era monuments. The Polish Institute of National Remembrance (PINR) reports that in 2022 four Polish cities simultaneously agreed to remove Soviet symbols.

PINR President Karol Nawrocki justified the monument's removal, arguing "the monument must have historical, scientific or aesthetic values. It's non-historical because it refers to events that never happened."

Nazi Germany occupied Poland during the second world war from 1939 to 1945. Twenty-seven million Soviet soldiers and civilians were killed in the fight against the German invasion on the Eastern Front, which ended with the defeat of Nazi Germany.
