*Non-local woman ends life, man succumbs to injuries in central Kashmir’s Budgam*

Srinagar, July 30, KDC: A non local woman ended her life in Kanihama Magam, while a 45-yr-old man succumbed to his injuries after he was hit by a vehicle in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, officials said.

An official told news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that a non local woman(24) name (withheld), married in Kanihama Magam allegedly consumed some poisonous substances at her home. She was immediately rushed to SKIMS Bemina for treatment where doctors declared her dead, he said.

He said that in another incident a man identified as Fayaz Ahmad Lone (45) son of Mohammad Ramzan, was hit by a vehicle bearing registration no JK05J-5999 near Mazhama railway flyover yesterday and succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Bemina on Friday.

Police have taken cognizance of both the incidents and further investigations have been set into motion. (KDC)
*CS chairs UT Level Apex Committee meeting of SBM-U*

*Directs 100% door-to-door waste collection across all towns and cities in J&K by 2nd October 2021*

Srinagar, Jul 30 (GNS): The Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta today chaired the 8th meeting of State Level Apex Committee (SLAC) on Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) and reviewed the functioning of solid waste management system under the scheme.

Administrative Secretaries of departments of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Housing & Urban Development, Jal Shakti, Planning, Development & Monitoring, besides, Commissioners, Municipal Corporations, Jammu/Srinagar along with Directors, Urban Local Bodies, Jammu/ Kashmir participated in the meeting.

It was informed that under the Swachh Bharat Mission, efforts are being made towards scientific disposal of solid waste through scientific solid waste management, robust IEC activities for bringing about a behavioural change, and various capacity-building measures. Currently, 100% door-to-door collection of solid waste is being done in 984 wards with 100% source segregation is 178 wards.

The Chief Secretary directed the Housing & Urban Development Department to ensure 100% door-to-door collection of solid waste across all towns and cities of Jammu and Kashmir by 2nd October 2021, besides, raising the number of towns with 100% source segregation.

It was informed that as per the approved action plans for 76 ULBs and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), the Department is undertaking decentralized solid waste management via dedicated source segregation, door-to-door collection, primary and secondary transportation, intermediate waste storage, scientific processing, and final disposal as per Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.

Further, Municipal Committees of Pahalgam and Gulmarg have established processing plants with auto-composters and magnetic disintegrators to process bio-degradable and non-biodegradable wastes, respectively.

Moreover, JMC is setting up a 350 TPD solid waste processing plant at Jammu in collaboration with National Agriculture Corporative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED). JMC has also established integrated solid waste management facility at Bandurakh with the capacity of 125 TPD for 26 municipal wards, besides, undertaking bio-remediation of 1,25,000 MTs of legacy waste from Bhagwati Nagar dumping site.

Similarly, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is setting up a waste-to-energy plant with a capacity of 625 MTPD waste processing and 5MW energy generation at Achan, Srinagar.

The Apex Committee approved the action plan of solid waste management for SMC for Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) facilities at an estimated cost of Rs. 529.75 crore over the next five years.

The Committee also approved the revised solid waste management action plan worth Rs. 415.21 crore for JMC.

The new concept of decentralized waste management is based on the scientific segregation of wet and dry waste at the household-level followed by door-to-door waste collection and transportation to waste management centres. The segregated waste is proposed to be appropriately disposed of and recycled on scientific lines with linkages for generating non-conventional renewable energy in the form of Compressed Natural Gas.(GNS)
*Tourism dept announces special rental relaxations for students on trekking equipments*

Srinagar, Jul 30 (KNO): After the tourism department on Thursday inaugurated the Trekking Equipment Hire Shop, officials said that there will be special rental relaxations on the equipment for students who are adventure lovers.

An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the purpose of the opening of the Trekking Equipment Hire Shop is to encourage the adventure lovers so that they can explore the destinations.

"The renting of equipment is purely for adventure lovers and not for any commercial use. The shop is equipped with the latest equipment and whatever will be the demands will be inducted accordingly,” he said.

Notably, adventure tourism has gained momentum over the years in the valley especially after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the valley in March 2020 along with the other parts of India.

On the inauguration, Commissioner Secretary Tourism Sarmad Hafeez termed Jammu and Kashmir as the best trekking destination for adventure enthusiasts.

*COVID-19 vaccination: Six months on, 13 % frontline workers yet to get Ist dose of vaccine*

*44% yet to receive second jab*

Srinagar, Jul 30 (KNO) : Even after elapsing over six months since vaccination drive against Covid-19 was started in J&K, around 13 percent front line workers in J&K are yet to get their first dose of vaccine while 44 percent are yet to get the second dose.

As per the data available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in Srinagar of 61,033 front line workers, 43,084 have received the first jab while 26,677 have received both jabs.

“The percentage of front line workers who have received the first jab is 71 percent while 44 percent have received the second jab,” the data reveals.

In Kulgam 100 percent have received the first jab and 71 percent have received the second jab.

In Shopian of 6,311, 77 percent received the first jab and 50 percent received the second jab. In Bandipora, of 11,076, 84 percent and 52 percent have received first and second jabs respectively.

In Anantnag of 21,634 front line workers, 68 percent have received first dose and 42 percent have received second dose and in Baramulla of 31,685 front line workers, 66 percent have received first jab and 45 percent have received second jab.

In Kupwara out of 18,748 front line workers, 78 percent have received the first jab and 50 percent have received the second jab. In Pulwama, of 17,832 workers 100.00 percent have received the first jab while 62 percent have received the second jab. In Ganderbal of 6,519 front line workers 98 percent have received first jab and 71 percent have received second jab and in Budgam of 23,745 workers 82 percent workers have received first jab while 61 percent have received second jab.

Similarly in Jammu, Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, Kuthua, Ramban, Samba, Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi 94 percent, 100 percent, 87 percent, 100 percent, 100 percent, 100 percent, 95 percent, 98 percent, 86 percent and 100 percent front line workers have received first jab while as 69 percent, 55 percent, 54 percent, 62 percent, 78 percent, 84 percent, 57 percent, 61 percent 52 percent and 73 percent have received second dose respectively.

In aggregate form, of 359,542 front line workers, 314,107 (87 percent) have received first jab and 202,981 (56 percent) have received second jab respectively
