*ANC castigates Govt for closing shrines for Friday prayers*

Srinagar, Aug 13, KNT: Awami National Conference Friday castigated government for disallowing devotees to offer Friday prayers at different shrines across Srinagar city.

The party senior vice president Muzafar Shah in a statement to news agency Kashmir News Trust said that ahead of Independence Day, government has virtually locked down everything in Kashmir especially in Srinagar.

He said movement of people is being restricted in the garb of security while today religious sentiments of people were hurt when major shrines and mosques were closed and people were not allowed to offer Friday prayers.

“There were no Friday prayers at Hazratbal, Makhdoom Sahab, Jamia Masjid and other shrines. Religion is very important and dearer to people instead of worldly celebrations,” Shah said.

He said lives of people especially of younger generation have been made hell. “Bikes and Scooties of young people are being seized in the garb of security. Srinagar has turned into a jail for its inhabitants,” he said. (KNT)
