Srinagar, September 07:(GNS) Director General of Police J&K, Dilbagh Singh on Tuesday applauded role of Police and security forces for performing duties with utmost profession and restrain during last five days.

According to statement issued to media, it said that the DGP J&K Dilbag Singh has complimented Police CAPF and Army deployments for highly professional handling of ground situation over the last 5 days. Special restraint shown by police and security forces and very responsible conduct of the local people especially youth is highly appreciated.

He has said that we have to move forward together to strengthen peace identifying the enemies of peace and weaning out the mischievous elements strictly dealing with them under law, they said.

Most of the restrictions are eased including the Internet and situation is fully normal in both regions of Kashmir and jammu but under close watch,he has further stated, reads the statement.(GNS)
*Extortinist Gang busted by police in Bandipora, 01 arrested*


Srinagar,September 07:(GNS) Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a Extortinist gang by arresting one person in Northern district of Bandipora.

In statement to GNS, the police said that it received an information that some unknown persons carrying knives were extorting money from people during evening hours in different areas of Bandipora town and threatening them using the name of militants, a case was registered in Police bandipora and investigation started.

During investigation, with the help of all technical and other human leads, one suspect namely Aejaz Ahmad Sheikh resident of Bandipora was zeroed in and questioned, they said.

During questioning the person revealed and disclosed that he is involved in the commission of crime and also the knife was recovered on his disclosure. The accused person was arrested and further investigation is going on. More arrests are expected, they said.


The motive behind the crime was to extort money from common people after putting them in fear by using knife and name of militants, reads the statement.(GNS)
*Fire Damages Mosque, Several Other Structures in Akalmir Khanyar*

Srinagar, Sep 7 (GNS): A mosque also housing a seminary besides several other shops were damaged in a blaze erupting this morning in Akalmir locality in Khanyar area of central-Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

Eyewitnesses told GNS that soon after the fire broke out, locals rushed to the spot bring the flames under control. However the raging flames could not controlled with limited resources available with them. The flames briskly spread, causing substantial damage to several structures, they said.

The fire according to them damaged the mosque, a seminary Madrasa Misba-ur-Rashid besides a residential house and several shops.

Alleging the F&ES of a sloppy approach, they said that despite timely intimation, the department reached late to the spot. “Had they reached on time, the damage could have been averted”, they said.

Meanwhile Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Bashir Ahmad Shah while talking to GNS said that it became somewhat difficult to contain the fire owing to its congestion besides the houses built of wood.

“We had sent some ten to twelve vehicles of fire squad for rescue, however with many houses mainly built of wood and congestion in space, it became difficult to contain the fire”, the official said.

“Upper portion of a mosque and a residential house received damage in the mishap”, he said adding the water used to douse off the flames may have caused damage to the shops.”

Two members of our fire squad also received minor injuries, however all of them are out of danger, he said identifying the duo as Sajad Ahmad and Rafiq Ahmad.

When asked about the cause of fire, Deputy Director said that it primarily seems an accidental case and that they are ascertaining the actual cause of fire. (GNS)
*32-year-old woman electrocuted to death in Anantnag*

Anantnag, Sept 7(GNS): A 32-year-old woman was electrocuted to death in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday, officials said.

They said that the woman, Masrat Jan wife of Irshad Ahamad Wani of Damhall, got accidentally electrocuted at her home and was rushed to GMC Anantnag where doctors declared her brought dead.

A police official told GNS that cognizance of the incident has been taken and further necessary action would be taken. (GNS)

Quoting IGP, the official Twitter handle of Kashmir Zone Police wrote, "Mobile internet will be open in Srinagar & Budgam today by 7pm. Regret inconvenience caused to students in studies: IGP Kashmir,".

Mobile internet was snapped across Kashmir Valley on 02 September after demise of Senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Ali Geelani.

On Monday mobile Internet was restored across Kashmir except for Srinagar and Budgam district.(GNS)

Srinagar, Sep 7 (GNS): Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday said that people expect an early restoration of Statehood ahead of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Bukhari was addressing a function at Party office in Lal Chowk wherein scores of prominent political workers including former State Secretary JKPCC and various Panchayat representatives from Handwara-Kupwara joined Apni Party.

He said that Apni Party believes in the service of people and have from day one pursued the issues that matter the most for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “We have never indulged in deceitful politics. What we said on day one, we have maintained that stand and have never compromised or shied away from voicing the concerns of people in and outside J&K,” he added.

Bukhari said that Apni Party believes in the significance of a political worker who kept the democratic process alive despite the turbulence in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that Apni Party will never compromise on its socio-economic and political agenda and will ensure that whatever has been promised is delivered on the ground. (GNS)
