It is in my nature to want to make things better; more beautiful, more comfortable, more harmonious, more balanced or more peaceful, whatever the case may be, I just can’t help myself, things must be done as best as possible, from setting the table to making a cup of tea, to running a business.

I checked out of a hotel this morning and the lady asked ‘How was your stay? (She regretted asking), I said ‘Ok’, to which she stared back at me with displeasure, ‘Is there anything we could have done better?’

I then went on to give her a full thesis on how things could’ve been better😁. From the room decor, to the bathroom amenities, to the colour of the doors! (They were ‘diarrhoea brown’).

She was thankful for the feedback, as most people don’t take the time. It was constructive criticism and I did make sure to compliment the personnel on their amenable disposition to make up for my displeasure at other things.

When we pay for services, and this was not a cheap hotel, we must learn to respectfully ask for what would be expected. The reason why the level of service in general is so poor is because we put up with too much.

It made me realise, that wanting to make things better, was behind the motivation of absolutely everything I have achieved in my life.

It occurred to me, that if everyone tried to make something better, no matter how small or menial, the world could quickly transform to a more pleasant place.

If you are lacking focus or motivation, I recommend you start by taking on small tasks. For example, can you make your room better? More orderly? Or more comfortable? Or just prettier? I can assure you that small projects can become the beginning of a transformation, not just of your home, but of you.

When you can look back at something you have started and finished successfully, you begin to build the confidence you need to continue taking on new challenges. Any project, however small, requires work, creativity, resourcefulness and discipline, which are the same traits required to build an empire.

So start building your personal empire, one small task at a time. Making things better around you is a great way to start.

Just please don’t paint your doors ‘diarrhoea brown’! 😝😂

I believe this is our role and our destiny, it may not feel fair at times and it certainly has not been easy, but we were chosen for a reason. So be proud for it and take on your role with courage and responsibility. Our Creator will reward you for it.
