ALL EYES ON YOUNG EAGLE ZACH

Under the watchful eyes of fourth official Muhd Taqi (extreme right) and Albirex Niigata (Singapore)'s head coach Kazuaki Yoshinaga (second from right), 18-year-old Zach Whitehouse came on as a late substitute for Geylang International in their 2-1 win over the White Swans in the Singapore Cup match at Jurong East.

Despite being a COE U21 player, the Englishman already logged a bit part in the Eagles' just concluded Singapore Premier League campaign.

#bftp9am - WHEN THERE WAS ALMOST AN UPSET AT JBS

Guam last visited Singapore back in 2015 and almost caused an upset with a 2-2 draw against the Bernd Stange coached Lions at the Jalan Besar Stadium

And the fans, of course, were not happy with the result back then.

SO WHO IS GONNA HAVE THE BIGGEST SAY?

Co-hosting a major football tournament is nothing new in this region when 2007 saw AFC Asian Cup jointly hosted by Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam - a decision that was regretted by the then AFC president Mohammed Bin Hammam who was the one to propose that groundbreaking move.

With that precedent, is Asean region ready to repeat that feat when Malaysia already denied any part in this proposal.

HASSAN AIM TO LEAVE A RICH LEGACY BEHIND

β€œI want to retire as someone who has achieved so many things in football, because... I want to have a good story to tell my kids and, at a later stage, I would like to share my knowledge with the younger ones.” - Hassan Sunny, Albirex Niigata (Singapore) and Lions' custodian

LIONS ON A RISKY PATH

It should be a bigger margin than this wafer-thin win for Singapore over Guam in this World Cup Qualifying match.

The second-leg of this qualification match will take place on 17/10 in Guam.

NEVER BE FORGOTTEN

13 years ago on this day, Mr Dollah Kassim passed away.

The former Singapore striker was popularly known as the "Raja Gelek" because of his superb dribbling skills that thrilled the fans back in the 1970s.

In this picture, Mr Dollah hoisted the Malaysia Cup at Paya Lebar Airport after the triumphant return from KL where they beat Penang to clinch the coveted trophy in 1977.

Noticed those happy faces - that is the power of football not merely because it was the Malaysia Cup.

One of the nicest persons I ever met and honored to have spoken to him on a few occasions.

On one such occasion, I asked how he managed to juggle his various football commitments on top of his day job.

"Discipline" was what he replied to me, other than he also shared with me which was his most memorable game when playing for Singapore.

RIP Mr Dollah and thanks for the legacy you left behind.
THE HEAT IS ON LIONS

⚠️ The second-leg of the World Cup Qualifying match between Guam and Singapore will depend on the latter's capability to play the game in afternoon heat?
