I believe those in their fifties and above would know who Mat Noh was.
Nicknamed "Allan Clarke" of local football, the good-looking striker was a heartthrob to many ladies fans and wowed many with his dazzling skills on the field during his heydays in the 1970s when starring for the national team in their Malaysia Cup exploits that ignited the "Kallang Roar" era.

But how many who were born in the 1980s actually know him or his contemporaries and those who were born in the late 1970s might be too young to know who they were until they read about them in newspapers, etc.?
And because of such ignorance, it led to one unsavoury incident that triggered one uproar that a late former national player was not properly accoladed on the night when he should at the closing ceremony of the old National Stadium (I shall not dwell on this incident, just go and Google it, as it still left a bitter taste on my tongue whenever I think about it).

The news of the demise of Mr Mat Noh saw another round of nostalgic recollections on social media.
Such a show of affection made me why do we have to wait till very late to realize who they were?
Shouldn't there be a better engagement or effort to make in order not to let those former players faded into oblivion?
Till then, stay safe and healthy and don't gather in numbers โ
Thank you for your support.

SAILORS CRUSHED STAGS

AFC Champions League slot next year but they know it too well that the bigger prize is still that elusive AIA Singapore Premier League title with the gap between them and Albirex Niigata (Singapore) is narrowed to two points in the standing.
๐ค Ironically, the Sailors would need a huge favour from the crest-fallen Stags when the latter take on the defending champion this coming Friday at Jurong East with such a short recovery timeframe. (๐ท LCSFC)

โฌ๏ธ Things went downward spiral for Tampines Rovers after AFC Champions League, losing all six games, conceding 27 goals and scoring just one in the campaign.
โฌ๏ธ Losing five out of seven games since resuming of AIA Singapore Premier League season, with only win against Young Lions followed by 6-1 defeat by Lion City Sailors.
๐ฅ Revelation of "toxic environment" in the dressing in the attached The Straits Times article.
โ But club is looking forward to the next season to strengthen the squad and stay loyal to beleaguered coach Gavin Lee whose contract is extended to June 2024.
๐ฃ๏ธ"We have to be honest and realise that we underestimated the toll it would have on us and overestimated the ability we thought we had in dealing with it." Tampines Rovers' chairman Desmond Ong.

Thought both Gavin Lee and Desmond Ong are candid with their assessment.
For Coach Lee, he stated ACL tournament "took a lot away from us physically and mentally", while Chairman Ong revealed "We didn't have an open chequebook to reinforce the squad as to how people thought we would."

I would say it is kind of disturbing to read about the revelation of the infighting as reported in the Straits Times article, although such scenario is not uncommon when chips are down and it's up to the coaches and management to keep the spirit up during such adversity.
Thought the game earlier at Jurong East was poor with both Albirex Niigata (Singapore) and Tampines Rovers literally toothless and lacked the bite upfront.
The Stags were not able to string up their passes from the middle to the front, while Albirex Niigata (Singapore) pumped countless of futile attempts from the wings and to be cleared by the defence marshalled by the experienced Baihakki Khaizan and Dan Bennett.

BALL AT SAILORS' COURT
โฝ๏ธ Seems like an intriguing see-saw battle for the AIA Singapore Premier League title race after Albirex Niigata (Singapore) failed to shackle the equally subpar Tampines Rovers in a goalless stalemate held last night (24/9) at the Jurong East Stadium.
The nil-nil draw meant the White Swans could only extend their advantage at the top to three points instead of five from Lion City Sailors, their nearest rivals in the title race.
๐ค "So the ball is now kicked to the Sailors' court once again after this draw and the challenge now is how to ensure Kim Do-Hoon's men don't screw it up again."
