#bftp9am - SBHFL COMEBACK?

Back in 2018, the late former FAS president Lim Kia Tong mooted the idea of getting corporate entities to get involved in Singapore football again like once the popular Singapore Business Houses Football League (SBHFL) did in the past.

Years down the road since that announcement, there isn't any much progress.

RE-OPENING OF NLB CENTRAL PUBLIC LIBRARY

πŸ“š There is a new section called "SGALCOVE" in the revamped NLB Central Public Library which showcases books related to the Singapore context.

🎟️ Among those items on display to mark the occasion are the reproduction of the match tickets which are part of my collection (being arrowed) alongside those from Mr Reynold Godwin Pereira, the author of "Uncle Choo
Singapore's Greatest Football Coach"

#bftp9am - "OVER HERE, O REI!"

The late Brazilian legend Pele (pictured with his back to the camera, circled) greeted several members of the media who were at the media tribune of Jalan Besar Stadium in March 2011.

The "O Rei," who passed away in December 2022, was in town with former Manchester United star Eric Cantona and former USA international Cobi Jones as part of the touring New York Cosmos contingent.

The trio greeted the crowds during halftime of the S.League match between Courts Young Lions and Geylang United.

#bftp9am - PLACING THE SINGAPORE CUP

A staff member from the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) was about to place the Singapore Cup trophy on the pedestal before the 2010 final at Jalan Besar Stadium.

πŸ† This trophy is the second version since the professionalisation of the game in the island republic and was unveiled in 2006 to replace the earlier version.

🐰 The year 2010 was a significant one for the tournament, as Thai club Bangkok Glass (now known as BG Pathum) became the first foreign side to win Singapore football's premier knockout competition.

🌏 Despite the name of the tournament, various clubs from neighbouring countries had been invited to participate in the competition to enhance its regional appeal in recent years.

#bftp9am - "HOCK, WHERE IS MY JERSEY?"

Former Singapore skipper Mr Samad Allapitchay (in white shirt) seems to ask Mr Ho Kwang Hock (in lime green shirt and checking on his paper) where his jersey was.

Looking on were both Mr R Suriamurthi (extreme right) and Mr Dollah Kassim (on Mr Samad's right) with another former Lions captain Terry Pathmanathan (back facing, partially hidden).

This was a scene at Jalan Besar Stadium on 3rd of October 2009, a day before the annual Sultan of Selangor's Cup.
