Tamil Nadu: A large crowd and long queues seen at Government Kilpauk Medical College in Chennai, as people arrive here to get Remdesivir for their family members, amid #COVID19 pandemic.

I badly need this Remdesivir, it is very important for my mother. I have been trying this for the past 3 days. The entire process is in serious trouble. If we handle the pandemic this way, I don't think there will be a recovery soon. I think I might get infected like this: Imran https://t.co/iXvvt2PGpn

The Tamil Nadu govt has issued a new protocol for treatment and management of #covid19 patients. It’s important we know the key points - so we can avoid panic and know what to do if a loved one contracts the virus.

1. Any patient with SPO2 > 96 should NOT be admitted in a hospital. Quarantine at home. Proning for 8-16 hrs a day.

2. SPO2 between 90-94: to be admitted in nearest PHCs/Covid Care Centres with O2 support.

3. If SPO2 falls below 90: admit in a Covid hospital. Call 104.

Similar step down criteria will be followed too. Those in Covid hospitals weaning off oxygen will be sent to PHC with O2 beds, so more critical patients can occupy hospital/ICU beds.

Can be discharged if patient is able to maintain SPO2>92, without O2 support for 3 days

If on home quarantine -

- Don’t exert
- Proning upto 16 hrs a day
- Adequate hydration
- Continue all regular medications for existing comorbidities
- Monitor SPo2, get help as needed.
